Note to myself Installing VMware Workstation 10 on Linux (Ubuntu 14.04 LTS)

Today I installed VMware Workstation 10 to our server, for testing.

After installation, I tried to start VMware: (I’m using X11 port forwarding, ie. ssh -X myuser@ourserver)

Pop-up asking for license or e-mail address appeared, I tried to start trial. Got this message:

Failed to register license. This may be because the root password is 
required to register your license. Please contact a system 
administrator with any questions.

Googling didn’t provide answers. Running sudo vmware didn’t help. But, then I guessed what was the problem.

apt-get install gksu

System didn’t have GUI for su[do] installed. After that everything worked perfectly. Ie. running

vmware

succeeded.
